Diploma in Animal Physiotherapy
The Diploma consists of a theory and practical element.
Theory element
Students are required to complete and pass 4 units (10 modules) including a research project. This element will be assessed by end of unit assignments and a two hour theory exam at the end of the course. This element of the course is fully flexible. Course tutors are on hand for continual support and guidance.
Time allocation
The modules are designed to be flexible and can be studied at the students own pace. As a guide, to complete the course in one year, approximately 15 hours private study per week would be necessary plus 4 to 5 weeks practical training.
Practical element
The Diploma in animal physiotherapy can be completed from anywhere in the world. In addition to our practical training venues in the UK we also have training bases in South Africa and New Zealand.
United kingdom
The practical training is not constructed in consecutive weeks. However, block training sessions can be arranged if necessary. Practical training will be given by The College of Animal Physiotherapy and other members of The International Association of Animal Therapists and will be delivered by a mixture of group practical training days and shadowing. This course is designed to be flexible so that students can continue with employment. However, days off work are usually necessary and students in full time employment should be prepared to use up annual leave.
Australia and New Zealand
Intensive practical training for students in Australia and New Zealand is carried out with accredited trainer Rose Turner in New Zealand. This training is carried out once modules 1 to 9 are completed and culminates with the final exam. Dates for 2011 are ..... To read more about Rose click here.
South Africa
Practical training can be carried out by arrangement with accredited trainer Sue Ainsworth -Taylor in Johannesburg South Africa. The final exam can also be carried out in South Africa. To read more about Sue click here.
Other countries
Students from other countries have the option of sourcing a local animal physiotherapist to train with. This is arranged on an individual basis and will need to be approved by the college. Otherwise, students can travel to the UK once modules 1 to 9 are completed for intensive practical training and the final exam.
