Equine Sports Massage

TCAP offers flexible courses in animal massage and rehabilitation – delivered partly by distance learning and partly by hands-on practical training. Our courses are accredited by UK Rural Skills.

Designed to raise the standard of knowledge and skill and the credibility of practitioners in the animal massage field, these are rigorous and thorough courses in equine and canine massage and rehabilitation that align with Ofqual Level Descriptors for Level 4 and Level 5 respectively.

Course assessment

The course is assessed through online tests, a record of practical skills, a reflective diary, practical and written examinations.

Exam dates are set every three months, allowing students to book their exams at an appropriate time for their own progression through the programme.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for the course are:

  • Demonstrable work experience with equines.
  • References from two professionals within the industry.
  • For entry into the Level 5 equivalent programme, completion of the Level 4 equivalent programme.
  • Minimum age 21.

Students can enrol on the Level 5 equivalent programme in its entirety, or can complete the Level 4 equivalent programme, then go on to study the Level 5 equivalent.

The Level 4 equivalent course in equine sports massage offers an excellent grounding and introduction to the subject, covering all aspects of the profession to enable you to become a successful and credible practitioner.

The level of detail contained within the course is designed to set our graduates apart as credible professionals within the industry.

Theory modules

The Theory Modules include:

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Communication and professional skills
  • Massage and soft tissue techniques
  • Related professions

In addition to the theory modules, you will undertake:

  • 8 days’ Practical training
  • Case studies
  • Some reflective practice

Total learning time: 1200 hours

Practical training

Practical training is delivered at various venues around the UK offering a degree of flexibility on location and dates, but you will be expected to travel in order to complete your practical training.

Course fees

The fees for the Level 4 equivalent Diploma in Equine Sports Massage are £3200 in total.

Three payment options are available:

  1. Full payment at registration – a discount of £250 is applied to those paying the full price at registration
  2. 12 monthly payments of £267
  3. 24 monthly payments of £134

The Level 5 equivalent course in equine sports massage and rehabilitation offers a further level of knowledge and training.

Theory modules

In addition to the Level 4 equivalent modules, students are required to complete the following Level 5 equivalent modules:

  • Advanced Massage and Soft Tissue Skills
  • Orthopaedics and Neurology
  • Biomechanics, Gait, Exercise Prescription and Rehabilitation

In addition to the theory modules, you will undertake:

  • The 8 Level 4 equivalent practical days, plus an additional 4 days practical training, 12 in total
  • Case studies
  • Research project
  • Some reflective practice and a reflective assignment

Total learning time: 2400 hours
(1200 hours for Level 4 equivalent plus an additional 1200 hours for Level 5 equivalent)

Practical training

The fees for the Level 5 equivalent Diploma in Equine Sports Massage & Rehabilitation are £4200 in total.

Three payment options are available:

  1. Full payment at registration – a discount of £300 is applied to those paying the full price at registration
  2. 12 monthly payments of £350
  3. 24 monthly payments of £175

If you have already completed the Level 4 equivalent programme and wish to continue onto the Level 5 equivalent programme, the balance of £1000 is payable.
