Things to do in Oxfordshire
Escape to the City and make the most of your stay in Oxfordshire.
If you’re keen to explore beyond the bounds of Chinnor and the Chilterns, here are some recommendations for things to do nearby.
HISTORIC OXFORD
A visit to Oxford for the day is a must when you stay with us. From Oxford city center you can explore a host of historic monuments, including the Radcliffe Camera and Radcliffe Square (dating back to 1737) and the iconic Bridge of Sighs, completed in 1914 and a feature of many classic TV shows, including Inspector Morse, Lewis and Endeavour.
Should the sun actually shine(!), between May and November you can enjoy a leisurely punt on the River Cherwell or River Thames and see the sites from a very different perspective. Hire your own punt for around £25 per hour, or, if you would prefer not to take the helm yourself, hire a guide, pack a picnic and take some drinks with you too.
The Covered Market, Oxford, is home to over 50 independent shops, cafes, bars and experiences and the perfect place to stop for a snack if you’re feeling peckish, particularly when the weather isn’t on your side!
You’ll find more information at Oxford Punting and you can check out an insiders guide to punting, courtesy of The Oxford Magazine.

THE BICESTER COLLECTION AND BLENHEIM PALACE
With more than 150 boutiques, The Bicester Collection offers a five star shopping experience just 14 mins by train from historic Oxford. To make a day of it, travel on by bus, train or taxi to Blenheim Palace and Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Centre, birthplace of Winston Churchill and home of our local three-day event – Blenheim Palace Horse Trials.

HISTORIC THAME
The historic market town of Thame is just 10 minutes away from TCAP HQ in Henton and the perfect place for a leisurely lunch or dinner. You’ll find a full list of options on the Thame Town Council website. Luckily there is also the option to take a walk on The Phoenix Trail – a traffic free cycle ride suitable for walkers and horse riders too.
