Meet the Student: Faye Kilby
Leicestershire based student Faye Kilby selected TCAP for her animal physiotherapy training in order to help her manage her studies around a busy veterinary career and young family.
Q: WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO STUDY ANIMAL PHYSIOTHERAPY WITH TCAP?
A: Working as a Registered Veterinary Nurse, I always felt like something was missing. I wanted to offer more comprehensive care – to not only assist animals during their surgeries and recovery, but also support them through their rehabilitation journey. Too often, I saw pets leave after surgery to find a physiotherapist elsewhere. Training with TCAP allowed me to fill that gap and become the physiotherapist these animals needed, completing the circle of care I was passionate about.
Q: WHAT DID YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT THE COURSE?
A: I found the practical sessions incredibly refreshing. They provided a valuable opportunity to apply the theory I had learned and clarify any questions I had with hands-on experience. I was able to attend most of the sessions I wanted, and knowing they were repeated the following year meant I never felt like I missed out. This flexibility and reinforcement really helped solidify my understanding and confidence in the material.
Q: WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE TO STUDY WITH TCAP?
A: I felt supported, the TCAP family are very friendly and helpful, being in the student WhatsApp group was great to discuss ideas.
Q: AND WHAT DID YOU LIKE OR FIND MOST REWARDING?
A: I really enjoyed Liz Tyrrell-Asprey’s practical days and even booked an extra session with her to prepare for my exams. She structured the sessions brilliantly, always starting with an anatomy lesson that helped me remember key landmarks and muscles. Liz’s teaching style and encouragement made me feel like, ‘I can do this.’ She is a physiotherapist I truly admire and aspire to emulate as I work toward running my own physiotherapy business.
Q: WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST TAKEAWAY FROM TRAINING?
A: The biggest takeaway for me was learning that every physiotherapy treatment depends on the stage of healing. Understanding the different stages and selecting the correct treatment option for each has given me confidence in structuring effective physiotherapy consultations.
Q: AND WHAT WAS THE MOST CHALLENGING ASPECT OF THE COURSE?
A: The most challenging aspect of the course was grasping the physics behind the machines, how they interact with tissues, and interpreting what my hands were feeling during assessments. However, this challenge ultimately deepened my understanding and skills.
